About Us
Voyageur Academy began its journey in 1998. It started as a small elementary school program in the heart of Southwest Detroit. The elementary operations remain at this original location. Through the demands of its parents, Voyageur requested from, and was approved by Ferris State University, to extend its’ program to include a middle and high school. The culmination of this request was facilitated over a seven year period at which Voyageur Academy graduated its first class of high school students through Consortium.
Voyageur’s history has many great successes. The academy has experienced significant academic performance in many areas that displayed high proficiency. The achievement received high notice when the state's government acknowledged Voyageur’s success with the coveted Golden Apple Award that was presented to the Board of Directors from a Wayne RESA representative, Dr. Blandina Rose.
The academy has not only experienced success in academics but our ten year student retention (rate) is an amazing 88% with multiple years having a rate of 97%. This factor is a great indicator of the level of demand for Voyageur’s program.
Voyageur’s success over the years is not because of any one person or group. The success of the academy is because of the synergistic efforts of the board of directors, administrative team, teaching and support team, parents, management team, authorizer, and most of all, Voyageur students.
